Spring Fashion 2021: Style Your Way Into The Season

Lisa Burton

There’s no denying how tricky this winter has been to navigate, which is why we’re so excited to start thinking about finally stepping into spring, with its warmer weather, brighter days, and – most importantly – an excuse to stop hibernating in our comfiest winter wears! In this article we take a sneak peek at spring fashion trends for 2021, and share our top tips on transitioning from your lockdown comfies to your springtime look!

Your Spring Staples

Before we can even begin to think about building this year’s spring ensembles, it’s important to make sure you’ve got you spring staples to hand. For this transitional season it can be tricky as we move from frosty days spent by the fire, to sunny afternoons spent in the garden. But you can’t go wrong with a selection of maxi dresses and skirts, sleeveless tops and a handful of cardigans to layer with these, some bold and bright accessories, your favourite printed pieces (you can never go wrong with a floral print in spring!) plus a few mix and match separates.

Layer Your Look

As we’ve already mentioned, spring can be a tricky season to predict, weather-wise, so layers are your friend! When building your outfit, consider the variations you could make should the sun come out (or disappear behind a rain cloud!) to ensure your look can last the day. Cardigans can always be worn then tied around the waist, and chunky fashion scarves (that are easily removed, if needs be) can help add coverage to camis and tees.

Perfect Your Prints

Floral prints are what springtime is all about, but if you want to create a real stand-out look, try mixing a pair of contrasting prints. Yes that’s right – print pairing is in!

The key to mixing prints is to ensure the two garments are both from the same colour family, and preferably feature prints of different sizes. This could be a large print skirt accessorized with a delicate ditsy print scarf, or a bold print cardigan with a more delicate print dress… experiment with what you already have and see how many combinations you can build around your spring staples. Remember, if in doubt, you can always soften a look with a simple denim jacket, a plain cami, or a single-colour cardigan.

Dress Up From The Neck Up

We’ve talked a lot about the outfit – but what of accessorising, this year? Headbands, hair scarves and scrunchies are definitely enjoying a revival at the moment, (most likely thanks to the amount of time we’ve all spent socialising via zoom this year… it’s been all about dressing up from the neck up!) so if you can coordinate a colourful hair accessory or an eye-catching piece of jewellery with the rest of your outfit, it’s a surefire spring win.
