Sleep Genie: Your Dreams Decoded

Sleep researcher William Dement once said “Dreaming permits each and every one of us to be quietly and safely insane every night of our lives” which would help to explain why some of us wake up utterly perplexed by our night time nightmares.

What we do know however is that dreams reflect the various elements of our lives, so being able to decode what our dreams mean could help us identify and address those niggling problems that we may not even be aware of. We have scoured the internet to decode some of the most common dreams, do any of these sound familiar to you?

Being chased

Have you ever had a dream where you’re being pursued by something absolutely terrifying? Turns out you’re not alone. Chase dreams are one of several common dream themes associated with stress and anxiety, so take some time for yourself each day and combat that day-to-day stress! Grab a dream journal and try to work out what exactly is chasing you in these dreams in order figure out what might be the root cause. If it’s your boss hunting you down for a deadline, you might want to assume work is a key factor but alas if it’s a giant spotty t-Rex pursuing you, finding that key stressor might be a little difficult.

Back to school

You’re back in the exam hall feeling incredibly unprepared for a very important test, everyone else appears to know what they’re doing but you failed to get the memo. If you’ve had this dream more than once it could indicate a lack of confidence in your daily activities, maybe it’s worth trying to address where you’re lacking this self-belief? Find something each day that fills you with confidence, maybe it’s wearing that colourful dress or trying a new shade of lipstick- get out of that comfort zone!

Teeth Trouble

You floss, brush and use mouth wash everyday so why are your dreams filled with teeth issues? Having a dream where your teeth are decaying or falling out has absolutely nothing to do with an irrational fear of plaque build-up. It could however indicate that you fear the loss of something precious in your life, could it be a close friend or your dream job?  Alternatively some experts believe teeth dreams stem from an irrational fear of growing old and losing our faculties, perhaps it’s time to embrace those crow’s feet?

Whether you believe dreams are merely a product of our restless minds or a way of interpreting daily events, we’d love to hear your weird and wonderful dreams on Facebook and Twitter!
