Some of you may have already seen him appear on your screens recently but we want to give you a formal introduction. We’d like to introduce you to our brand new Ideal World presenter, Jeremy Edwards!
You might have seen him on popular soaps including Holby City and Hollyoaks and now we’re delighted to say that he’s part of the Ideal family!
We met up with Jeremy during his first week here to get to know more about him. Here’s what he had to say:
What did you study and where?
I studied, believe it or not, politics at Manchester Metropolitan University. It was good, I had a good time there. I only went there because they had a gap and I wanted to go to Manchester. I thought it was a really good place to party at the time! But I’ve had an interest in politics as result ever since.
Are you working on any other exciting projects?
I have a series out that’s just started on CBBC – it’s a sitcom called Milly Inbetween. It’s the biggest kids show in the country – it’s really good! I play Mike on it and that’s my favourite character I’ve ever played, I loved it because he’s just fun, a bit daft and kids love him. It’s really nice to be recognised by kids because it means a lot to them. I’m a new dad myself and my daughter’s far too young to watch it, but it’s great. I’m really proud of it and it’s just started at the beginning of January.
Do you have any personal achievements that you’re really proud of?
Well, apart from my daughter (my wife can take more credit for that than me). I wrote and directed a short film last year that’s on iTunes called ‘The Locke Inn’ and I’m very proud of that. I didn’t pay any money – I sourced funding, got a crew together and we shot it in 3 days and it’s very strong. I’m really proud of it and that’s where my first step was as a writer/director.
That’s my ultimate goal and it’s going to take some time. I have been acting for 24 years so I called in a lot of favours. We got the best people. I got the makeup people from Harry Potter, I got the sound people and 2 cameras – most equipment lent from Sony. We made the whole thing for under £5,000. It’s kind of a calling card now for doing movies.
Why did you want to join Ideal World?
I like presenting, I want to do more presenting and I want control of my life. A quick meeting took place with the head of TV before Christmas and I’d done a little bit of shopping TV stuff in the past – favours for friends, being a guest and that kind of stuff. I knew it’d be difficult here and I’m learning at a rapid rate as well as being exhausted! I’m the tiredest [sic] I’ve ever been! It’s funny for me as I’ve never worked in a place like this. For me, it’s like having a proper job for the first time in my entire life.
If you could work with one famous person, who would it be?
Johnny Depp. No doubt in my mind. He was my hero when I was younger, I’ve always looked up to him and his acting choices. I think he’s phenomenal, I know he can go a bit crazy sometimes but can’t we all?
If you were on a desert island, what’s the one thing that you couldn’t be without?
It would be the same as everybody else! My smartphone. I mean, I like the way we’d have signal on the island – will we have WiFi on the island as well?
Have you got a favourite Ideal World product yet?
It is a bit early days but I’m going to go with the Halogen Cooker though and not just because Joanne’s sat here but because I’m pretty sure I’m going to buy one! It will save me so much time because having a new child, I’m doing so much cooking at the moment and I thought for just £40, I’ll have it. I’m really impressed with it. It’s like a microwave effectively.
If you were invisible for one day, what would you do?
I would go in the houses of parliament. I want to get under the skin of a few of these politicians! And see what they’re really doing – maybe in the bar at lunchtime? I’d like to see what they’re actually saying and all this kind of stuff.
It goes back to my degree and I’m fascinated with that whole world and I’d love to get in without them knowing to see what they really say behind closed doors because it’s the future of our country!
