Exclusive Q&A with Paul Becque!

Presenter Blogs

We caught up with the funnyman himself – Paul Becque! Keep reading to get a little insight into his life outside of Ideal World.

What do you like to do on your days off?

“This is an easy one! I love gardening and I love DIY. We just moved home in October, so there’s plenty of gardening and plenty of DIY projects to get started on.”

Do you have a routine before you go on air?

“Obviously, we do all the prep, finding out what the products are for the show. But then prior to the show for at least 20 minutes, sometimes half an hour I come into the dressing room to sort out my hair (which is usually a big old mess when I get into work – people always laugh about it). I put my eyes in, my earpiece and have a last-minute look at my notes. I don’t do any of that jumping up and down on a trampoline shouting ‘woohoo’ if anything it’s better for me to calm down.”

What’s your proudest achievement?

“Well, having a happy marriage with four beautiful children!”

Tell us a fun fact about yourself!

“For many years I did robotics like Michael Jackson and that’s what got me on to the cruise ships. It can be a party trick, I just do it now and again! It used to be a big part of my life but now it’s really not. I’ve done it on air!”

What’s your most embarrassing moment?

“I was on the cruise ships – I was head of entertainment and when it was my birthday, the staff came out with a cake! It was a very nice thing to do but I don’t really celebrate my birthday! In your head, you’re just notching up year after year. I kind of got embarrassed about that so I just said ‘thanks’ and walked off!”

Paul Please share with us how you lost your weight as you are much fitter and slimmer now than when you first joined IW.

Hi Paul, I hear you’re doing/ have done, by the time you get my note, the ‘Brave The Shave’ challenge. I did it last year for Macmillan, and raised over £250. Not that I had much hair of my own to dispose of, actually! I ended up with a ‘Sinead O’Connor’ crop, and liked my result so much I’ve kept it as short ever since. There is a photo of me on the Macmillan website (somewhere in their archives!) with my new look. Good luck!

Hi Paul, me again, sorry I didn’t read the headline correctly (long overdue a routine eye test, again!!!) Sending my best wishes to colleague Lloyd for his challenge.
