Retirement Living with Sun Park: Could it be for you?

News

Adam Jackson visited Sun Park for a day trip, which then turned into a two-week trip. He is now a regular tai-chi instructor there because he loves it so much!

Here’s what he has to say about the resort…

I arrived at Sun Park in January 2016 with no preconceptions or expectations. I had never been to Lanzarote before and knew very little about the island, let alone the resort of Playa Blanca. I had been to one of the neighbouring islands, Tenerife, but that was many years ago.

From the moment I walked through the main doors, I knew that this was a special place. Sun Park was a revelation. A life-changing, eye opening, spirit-lifting, revelation. All the apartments overlook beautiful gardens and swimming pools, and the resort is ideally situated just a short walk from the sandy beaches, the old town and the modern marina. However, it was the community of people living and holidaying there that made Sun Park so special. People from all walks of life had somehow come together with a common purpose – which was to find new friendships and create a place where anyone was welcome. Every day was filled with activity and purpose, where everyone, no matter how skilled or unskilled, shy or bold, active or physically challenged, could contribute to the welfare of the resort and each other.

I had never seen anything like this before. I was made to feel at home from the very first morning. Within days I had made friends that I felt would last a lifetime, I had taken part in walks, talks, games, and a multitude of both physical and spiritual activities. I had been welcomed into the arms of a community with an extraordinary ethos. I saw residents taking care of the gardens, running honesty bars, offering their time and skills to organise activities – collectively turning a normal holiday resort into a safe, welcoming, inclusive and purposeful home away from home. It’s suitable for anyone over 50 who has a need to make a life change or wants to simply immerse and surround themselves with new experiences and new friendships.

I came away from Sun Park rejuvenated and uplifted with a strong desire to tell others about my experience there. It felt so important to me that the ethos at Sun Park should prevail. That I should somehow contribute to the continuity of a new, challenging and purposeful choice for over 50s.

Adam will be guesting on the Retirement Living show on Thursday 14th September at 8pm.
