It’s not just the excitement of Christmas that has Ideal Towers buzzing this week! On Wednesday we’ll be joined by none other than Si King and Dave Myers, more commonly known as the Hairy Bikers. If you’ve lived under a rock for the past couple of years, these two rose to fame as cheeky, fun loving TV chefs. Combining both their love of motorcycles and food, this dynamic duo became famous for putting their quirky spin on culinary classics.

Not only are we excited to have these national treasures cooking up a few delights in our kitchen, but they’ll also be launching their very own kitchenware collection! From dream dinner guests to their worst recipe disaster, we sat down with the Si King for 7 quickfire questions…

  1. How did the Hairy Bikers come about?

Dave and I met on the set of a Catherine Cookson drama called The Gambling Man which was in Newcastle with Robson Green.  We both shared a love of motorcycles and a passion for food. A firm friendship was forged and when we got fed up with our day jobs – Dave, as a Make Up and Prosthetics Supervisor and me as a First Assistant Director and Locations Manager in the film industry, we decided to have a go in front of camera.  The Hairy Bikers was the title of an email that, to this day, no one knows who sent and the title stuck.  That was 15 years ago and we’ve been making television programmes and writing books for the past 12 years and having a lot of fun doing it.

  1. Who would be your dream dinner party guest?

Well whichever guest either of us chose, we’d both have to be there! I think Cary Grant and Gina Lollobrigida would be high up on the list.

  1. What are your current favourite seasonal recipes?

It’s more ingredients than recipes.  It’s the time for roast dinners and warm comforting food as well as great cold water shellfish and fish, big hearty warming flavours!

  1. Be honest, what was your biggest food disaster?

Crab soufflé on a charcoal oven in the middle of the Irish Sea – that didn’t go well!  We ended up with something reminiscent of a beermat rather than a soufflé.

  1. What’s the craziest thing you’ve ever eaten?

Goat’s penis hotpot in Vietnam.

  1. What’s your biggest guilty pleasure when it comes to food?

Bread and butter and for Dave it would be pizza.

  1. And finally, are you more likely to go for a starter or pudding?

Starter – both of us.
